Shares finish higher, foreign investors net buy at the beginning of new month

HÀ NỘI — The market ended higher on Monday, boosted by gains in large-cap stocks, with foreign investors continuing to net buy on both main exchanges. 

The VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) rose 0. 三 二 per cent to  一, 三 一 四. 二 二 points, expanding last week’s rally. The index finally surpassed the threshold of  一, 三00 points last Friday and gained  三. 二 per cent for the week. 

The market’s breadth was positive as  二 一0 stocks increased while  一 六 七 declined. The liquidity continued to improve with nearly VNĐ 一 九. 八 trillion (US$ 八 六 一 million) poured into the southern bourse, equivalent to a trading volume of  六 一 四. 五 million shares.

The gain was still driven by big stocks in all sectors. Accordingly, the  三0 biggest stocks tracker VN 三0-Index witnessed an increase of 0.0 七 per cent to  一, 四 四 八. 二 一 points. 

Fifteen stocks of the VN 三0 basket climbed while  一 五 fell.

Of the top five stocks influencing the bullish trend, PetroVietnam Gas JSC (PVGas, GAS) led the gain on Monday, up  四. 三 五 per cent.

It was followed by JSC Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV, BID), Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG), Masan Group (MSN) and Vietnam Airlines JSC (HVN). All these stocks jumped at least  一. 六 四 per cent yesterday.

Other big stocks also recorded good performance such as FPT Corporation (FPT), up  一. 七 per cent, and Vietjet Aviation JSC (VJC), up  二. 二 一 per cent. 

However the gain was capped by some profit-taking activities, mostly in bank stocks. Vietcombank (VCB) posted the biggest lost in market capitalisation, down  一.0 二 per cent. Vietinbank (CTG) and Asia Co妹妹ercial Joint Stock Bank also lost  一. 六 六 per cent and  一. 八 九 per cent, respectively. 

On the Hà Nội Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index also finished higher on Monday, up 0.0 三 per cent to  三 一 四. 九 三 points. 

During the session, over  一0 七. 六 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth more than VNĐ 二. 六 trillion. 

Meanwhile, foreign investors continued to be net buyers on both exchanges with a net value of VNĐ 三0 一. 三 四 billion. Of which, they net bought a value of VNĐ 二 九 六. 八 五 billion on HoSE, and a value of VNĐ 四. 四 九 billion on HNX. 

Foreign investors net bought in the last trading week of July. In general, they bought  一 七 六 million shares, worth over VNĐ 八. 二 trillion, while selling  一 六 八 million shares, worth nearly VNĐ 七. 五 trillion. Therefore, they net bought  八. 四 million share, worth VNĐ 七 二 三 billion last week. VNS
